Central Civil Construction Announces New President

Family-owned and operated, Central Civil Construction is pleased to announce its new president, Robert “Bob” T. Murphy, PE, CGC.  This marks the first time that a non-family member will be in a C-suite position.  Richard Baer will now be Chairman and Bob Baer will be CEO. Murphy will report directly to both.

Murphy, who brings nearly 40 years of construction industry experience, specializes in management and executive administration of public works and transportation construction.  Following graduation and his early years in road and utility construction in New Jersey, Murphy came to Florida in 1985 as an engineer coordinator for Capeletti Bros. and quickly advanced to vice president and chief operating officer. He has also held executive positions for other $100M+ heavy civil contractors in South Florida. Most recently, he was regional director for Daniel O’Connell’s Sons, specializing in WWTP work for Miami-Dade County’s WASD consent decree projects.

“After our father’s passing last year, we reflected on how we could be true to his vision and at the same time take Central Civil to the next level,” stated Bob Baer, CEO of Central Civil Construction. “We sought out Bob for his proven leadership with marquis South Florida civil construction companies, many of which were family businesses like ours, as we knew he would be a good fit as part of our growth strategy.”

Projects Murphy has managed include three contracts at the former Joe Robbie Stadium (now Hard Rock Stadium), and most notably, the three-level interchange with the Florida Turnpike.

Other significant projects include two I-95 HOV lane projects (13 miles) for the Florida Department of Transportation.

“I’m looking forward to working with both generations of the Baer family and the entire Central Civil team. We are in a good position and stand poised to continue taking on complex and challenging construction projects,” said Murphy.

Murphy received a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Villanova University and became a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Florida in 1988. He is also a certified general contractor, a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and a member of the Dispute Resolution Board Foundation.

Central Civil Construction specializes in complex projects, including: deep excavations, underground utility work, heavy highway construction, earthwork, land development and infrastructure civil engineering projects. The company has been instrumental in the development of local innovative projects, including site preparation for PortMiami’s Royal Caribbean Terminal A, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, the Underline, and Marlins Park.
