Hawks Cay Resort, which has been closed for renovation since Hurricane Irma hit the Florida Keys in September 2017, today announced it will reopen August 30, 2018, unveiling a refreshed resort experience. Opening in time for its 10th annual Heroes Salute kickoff event, which takes place over Labor Day weekend, the Resort will celebrate the holiday with a full schedule of events including a 5K run/walk, live music concert, heroes tribute ceremony, and fireworks.
“After months of restoration and hard work, we’re eager to reopen and introduce guests to the reimagined Hawks Cay,” stated Sheldon Suga, Hawks Cay Resort VP managing director. “We’re bringing back what guests loved about Hawks Cay with a fresh design in the main hotel and new experiences that will take the Resort into a new era.”
Ushering in the next phase of this legendary resort’s iconic history, the debut of the upgraded Hawks Cay will further elevate its status as a leading, one-of-a-kind vacation experience in the Florida Keys. The $50 million dollar renovation focused on the main hotel with a brand new design of the lobby, 177 guestrooms, and public areas. The main hotel’s new look celebrates its island sensibility with a coastal-inspired décor that is infused with a color palette of tropical hues and incorporates a range of natural seaside elements.
The introduction of two restaurant concepts will complement the Resort’s new spirit, providing both fine-dining and fast-casual options. Sixty-one Prime, a contemporary addition to the culinary offerings, will feature a menu of prime steaks and signature seafood dishes, as well as a selection of seasonal specials presented by Executive Chef William Ryan and Restaurant Chef Adam Matyi. For the first time ever, guests will be able to coordinate a romantic private dining experience from Sixty-one Prime in their guestroom or around the Saltwater Lagoon. Hawks Cay Marketplace will open as a casual eatery serving a fresh menu of salads, sandwiches and pizzas that can be easily taken to-go for guests who don’t want to leave their lounge chair for too long.
Appealing to the 21 and older crowd, Oasis Cay is a new “adults-only” area. An expansion of the Tranquility Pool, the larger area now includes a bar and grill that features its own menu of island-inspired bites and specialty drinks. “We’ve focused on the physical changes of the main resort area, but we’ve also taken this opportunity to spend a lot of creative moments on the experiential programming for guests as well,” continued Suga. “Our goal is to not only entertain guests, but create those special moments that often turn into the best memories.”
Families will enjoy the newly introduced special entertainment for round-the-clock fun with Captain Hawk and Priscilla the Pirate Queen performing at the Pirate Ship Pool and Koral the Mermaid telling stories and splashing around at the Coral Cay Pool. New programming will be added to the Resort’s offerings from comedy shows to poolside parties for the entire family to enjoy.
