The match up was the same as the 2010 FIFA World Cup final and the game started out even as Spain were play with their usual possession oriented style of “tiki-taka” or Total Football, as they prefer to call it. Netherlands allowed Spain to play their game and patiently waited for their opportunities to arise. The first goal came from another wrong call by the refs as Diego Costa dove in the box and drew a penalty for Spain, resulting in the only goal for La Furia Roja. It was then Netherlands who would score and leave the game level at half time.

After the half the story was completely different as Holland dominated the game and left Spain with no chances at goal. The Dutch side took the lead at the 52nd minute and steadily rose their lead almost every ten minutes at the 64′,72′,and 80′ minute until the whistle was blown to end the game a shocking 1-5 win for the Netherlands.
