NFL and Miami Super Bowl Host Committee Launch Business Connect Diversity Development Initiative

The National Football League, the Miami Super Bowl Host Committee and leadership from over 250 minority, woman, veteran, lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender-owned businesses around South Florida all joined together at a special event held at Hard Rock Stadium yesterday to learn about opportunities to compete for special event-related contracts, be they the kinds done by attorneys who handle business contracts or otherwise. The event was the official launch of the Super Bowl LIV Business Connect program, and featured extensive networking opportunities and information on how local businesses can learn more about being involved with Super Bowl contracts for goods and services.

Attendees heard from Darryl Holsendolph, owner of Holsen, Inc., a Miami-based apparel company that benefitted directly from being involved with the Business Connect program in 2010. They also had an opportunity to hear from and speak directly with B.J. Waymer, National Football League Business Connect Lead.

“Whenever the Super Bowl comes to town, local businesses always need to know how they can get involved, and how it benefits the community,” said Rodney Barreto, chair of the Miami Super Bowl Host Committee. “Everyone who wants to find out more about getting involved in this event needs to go to miamisb2020.com today, and check out all the information there on how to get involved with the Business Connect program.”

Representatives were also in attendance from a variety of diversity-oriented business chambers in the area, including the Florida State Minority Supplier Development Council, the Miami-Dade Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, the Minority Chamber of Commerce, and Miami-Dade and Broward county governments.

When the Super Bowl returns to Miami in 2020 it will be the community’s 11th time hosting the game. The event is projected to have a positive economic impact of over $500 million. Additionally, Super Bowl LIV will mark the culmination of the 100th anniversary of the NFL, and will feature special events and activities throughout Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties as part of the festivities.
