A Parisian Icon Prepares for a New Chapter

Hôtel de l’Abbaye Saint-Germain-des-Prés will close in November 2026 for an extensive renovation led by acclaimed designer Cordélia de Castellane.

One of Paris’ most intimate Left Bank retreats is preparing for a major transformation. Hôtel de l’Abbaye Saint-Germain-des-Prés will temporarily close beginning in November 2026, with a reopening planned for January 2029.

Tucked behind a private garden in the city’s 6th arrondissement, the former convent has long been known for its quiet atmosphere, historic charm and residential feel. The renovation will preserve those defining qualities while updating the property for a new generation of travelers.

Acclaimed French designer Cordélia de Castellane will oversee the artistic direction. Celebrated for interiors that balance tradition with contemporary elegance, de Castellane plans to approach the historic property with restraint and respect.

“My intention was to preserve its almost monastic atmosphere while giving it the spirit of a refined private residence—intimate, discreet and full of character,” de Castellane said.

Rather than dramatically reinventing the hotel, the project will focus on enhancing its existing architecture, natural light and original materials. The redesigned spaces will draw inspiration from the warmth and understated sophistication of a private Parisian home.

An Intimate Vision of Parisian Luxury

Compagnie Hôtelière de Bagatelle, the independent, family-owned hospitality group behind the hotel, is leading the renovation. The project reflects the company’s approach to restoring distinctive properties while honoring their histories.

“Hôtel de l’Abbaye has always been a place apart—discreet, enveloping, imbued with the soul of old Paris and the serenity of a hidden garden,” said Célia Cornu, owner of Compagnie Hôtelière de Bagatelle. “Our ambition is to preserve this unique character while bringing it thoughtfully into the present.”

When it reopens, the 2,300-square-meter property will feature 40 guest rooms and eight suites. Plans also include a restaurant and tea lounge, a private garden and courtyard, and a new wellness area with a swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and massage rooms.

The transformation is designed to position Hôtel de l’Abbaye among the Left Bank’s most desirable boutique destinations—offering an experience of Parisian luxury that feels personal, peaceful and deeply connected to its surroundings.

Hôtel de l’Abbaye Saint-Germain-des-Prés is located at 10 Rue Cassette in Paris’ 6th arrondissement. The hotel is scheduled to reopen in January 2029.
