Award-Winning Fertility Specialist in South Florida: Where Expertise Meets Trust

In South Florida’s most established communities, healthcare decisions are made with intention. Families seek physicians who combine clinical excellence with discretion, long-term vision, and a deep understanding of life’s transitions. Dr. Armando Hernandez-Rey, Medical Director at Conceptions Florida, exemplifies that level of care.

As a board-certified reproductive endocrinologist and fertility specialist, Dr. Hernandez-Rey is widely respected for his expertise in hormonal health across a woman’s lifespan. From fertility planning and preservation to the natural hormonal shifts of mid-life, his approach is grounded in science, experience, and personalization.

Expertise Across Fertility and Hormonal Health

Hormones influence far more than reproduction. They play a critical role in energy, metabolism, mood, sleep quality, bone health, and overall vitality. Dr. Hernandez-Rey’s work focuses on understanding how these systems change over time and how thoughtful medical guidance can support women through every stage.

An In-House Embryology Lab that Meets and Exceeds Expectations

At Conceptions Florida, patients benefit from a sophisticated, in-house embryology laboratory that meets the highest standards of modern reproductive medicine. Eggs, sperm, and embryos are cared for daily by an elite embryology team using advanced technology and meticulous protocols. This level of control and precision allows for continuity, safety, and optimized outcomes.

Yet technology alone does not define excellence. Dr. Hernandez-Rey leads a multidisciplinary team known for attentiveness, privacy, and clarity. Patients are never rushed. Questions are welcome. Care plans are designed collaboratively, respecting both medical insight and personal values.

Many women first arrive at Conceptions Florida focused on family building. Others seek guidance on fertility preservation, hormonal health, or proactive planning for the future. The practice’s philosophy remains the same: individualized care that evolves as life does.

Recognition Earned Through Excellence and Values

For Florida Villager readers who value legacy, longevity, and informed decision-making, Dr. Hernandez-Rey offers more than medical expertise. He provides reassurance, continuity, and a trusted partnership in women’s health, today and for years to come.

That is why he was awarded the gold medal for Best Doctor for the second consecutive year by the readers of the Miami Herald. It is also no surprise that the practice was awarded Best Medical Practice as well. It’s not just about professional expertise, but about the shared values of compassion, integrity, and respect reflected in every interaction by Dr. Hernandez-Rey and the team he leads.

Together, these values create a standard of care that feels both deeply personal and quietly exceptional, setting the Conceptions Florida practice apart in every stage of a woman’s journey.

The ABCs of IVF and PGT

Is There a Winning Formula for Reproductive Confidence?

By Armando Hernandez-Rey MD, Award-Winning Doctor, Reproductive Endocrinologist, Fertility Specialist and Medical Director, Conceptions Florida

Questions about genetics and long-term health are a natural part of the journey to parenthood. If you have diabetes or a known inherited condition, understanding how modern fertility medicine can reduce risk is an empowering first step.

What is PGT?

Preimplantation Genetic Testing, commonly referred to as PGT, is performed in conjunction with in vitro fertilization (IVF) and allows embryos to be evaluated before pregnancy occurs. While no medical process can offer guarantees, PGT provides valuable insight that helps guide informed, confident decisions.

PGT enables physicians to assess embryos for chromosomal balance and specific inherited conditions before transferring them to the patient’s uterus. This approach reduces the likelihood of miscarriage and helps minimize the risk of passing on certain genetic disorders.

While prenatal genetic testing became more widely available in the past decade, PGT was initially offered only to families with serious inherited diseases. Advances in technology have since expanded its accuracy and availability, making it an important consideration for many IVF patients today.

One often overlooked factor in IVF success is the laboratory itself.

IVF begins with an egg retrieval, followed by fertilization using sperm from a partner or donor. As embryos develop, a highly trained embryologist carefully biopsies a small number of cells. The embryos are frozen, and the biopsied cells are sent to a specialized genetic testing laboratory. Results typically return within one to two weeks, allowing patients and their physician to select an embryo with the most favorable genetic profile.

Not all fertility practices maintain on-site embryology laboratories or perform egg retrievals within their own facilities. Clinics that rely on external labs may introduce variables that can affect outcomes. Experience, consistency, and laboratory quality matter.

PGT isn’t one single test!

It is also important to understand that PGT is not a single test, but a family of targeted evaluations.

PGT-A assesses whether embryos have the correct number of chromosomes. PGT-M screens for a specific inherited condition already known within a family. PGT-SR evaluates embryos for balanced chromosomal structures when a parent carries a rearrangement.

Currently, PGT is a risk-reduction tool…not a guarantee.

There is no guaranteed formula for success, but there is a formula for confidence. Expert medical guidance, advanced genetic testing, and a state-of-the-art laboratory provide families with clarity, control, and peace of mind as they plan for the future.
