Background
Golf is a beloved pastime for many people, especially in Florida; but few have pursued their passion with the dedication and skill of Misha Gowda, a local high school freshman.
Her devotion to golf, which she first started playing with her dad at the age of seven, has been foundational in her approach to taking on challenges, learning from mistakes and consistently trying to improve. She’s so passionate about the game, in fact, that it inspired her to write and publish Par-Tee Time: Golf for Kids, a guidebook for kids who are interested in learning more about golf and improving their game.
“The idea for Par-Tee Time: Golf for Kids came when I realized there weren’t many resources that made learning golf both fun and relatable for young players,” says Gowda. “I wanted to create something that would inspire other kids to give this amazing sport a shot. At its core, this book stems from my personal journey with golf, my love for the sport and the joy I discovered once I developed my skills.”
Par-Tee Time is more than just your average how-to book, however. It’s written in a fun, engaging way to get kids excited about the sport that Gowda loves so much.
“Instead of complicated techniques and boring rules, it breaks the game down into fun, relatable stories with illustrations that make learning feel natural and effortless,” she says. “Beyond the basics, it explores what golf teaches beyond the course — important skills like staying cool under pressure, bouncing back from mistakes and showing respect to others.”
The Program
Writing Par-Tee Time was just the beginning of Gowda’s inspiring journey. What she chose to do next was a truly selfless act — donating 100% of the book’s proceeds to provide golf equipment for underprivileged children in Miami-Dade County, creating a lasting impact on her community and beyond.
“Growing up in Miami, I’ve seen how sports can unite communities and create opportunities; but I’ve also seen how golf — a sport that teaches patience, strategy and joy — can feel completely out of reach for kids just because of how expensive it is,” says Gowda. “That’s why I made the decision to donate the proceeds from Par-Tee Time towards providing golf equipment to kids who wouldn’t otherwise get the chance to play. If this book can help make golf more accessible and welcome new players into the game, then it’s achieving exactly what I envisioned.”
The Rewards
Gowda and her family are already seeing the positive impact that her book is having on kids and their excitement about the game of golf. “One moment that particularly stuck with me was when a young girl shared that she thought golf was just a ‘boring grown-up sport’ until she read the book,” says Gowda. “Now, she is out there swinging like she’s on the PGA Tour (or at least trying to). It’s incredible to think that something I created could inspire kids to pick up a club and give golf a shot.”
Gowda also hopes that her story will inspire other kids to make a difference in their community. “My advice is simple: Don’t overthink it; just start,” says Gowda. “You don’t need a perfect plan or a step-by-step roadmap. Find something you are passionate about and figure out ways to share it with others. Even the smallest actions — volunteering, raising awareness or just talking about your idea — can create a ripple effect. Don’t be afraid to share your vision.”
Get Involved
Of course, the easiest way to support Gowda’s efforts to help underprivileged kids get started with the game of golf is to buy the book. Par-Tee Time: Golf for Kids is available for purchase on Amazon and at select Miami bookstores.
Gowda and her family are also working to raise awareness about the book and their mission, encouraging fellow golf enthusiasts to get involved. Those looking to support can make a meaningful impact by donating golf equipment, sponsoring golf clinics or simply spreading the word about Par-Tee Time and its cause.
“Each donated club, ball and learning opportunity helps introduce more young players to the game,” says Gowda. “I’m eager to collaborate with individuals and organizations who share the same goal of making golf more accessible. Together, we can give more kids the chance to experience the sport — the more people who join us, the greater our impact.”
