Contact Lenses or Glasses?

If you have recently experienced issues with your vision and have been told you need to wear prescription lenses, your next step is deciding what you would be more comfortable wearing, contact lenses or glasses? Both are great choices, but some people prefer one over the other. If you’re struggling to make up your mind about what suits you best, here are some things to think about to help you make your decision.

Style

If you haven’t worn glasses before, you might feel odd when you put a pair on. It can be hard to envision yourself with eyewear if the only glasses you have ever worn before are sunglasses, and some people feel as though it doesn’t suit their look. However, there are many different styles of frames, so finding a pair that looks good on you and reflects your style shouldn’t be too difficult; you just need to shop around. However, if you have tried on numerous pairs and they still don’t feel right to you, perhaps contact lenses would be a better fit. You can even get UV protection contact lenses to defend your eyes from the glare of the sunlight on bright days.

Comfort

One thing that can put people off using contact lenses is the process of putting them on. They can be fiddly at first, and it might feel slightly uncomfortable until you get used to them, whereas glasses can just be put on and won’t come into contact with your eyeball. If you’re someone who is a bit squeamish and doesn’t like things coming near their eyes, contact lenses might not be the best option for you.

What’s More Practical for You?

Wearing contact lenses can make certain things easier, such as if you’re an active person who engages in a lot of sports, or if you’re a bit forgetful as you won’t take off your glasses and leave them somewhere. In many ways, they are the more practical option, as you don’t need to worry about them getting damaged as much as your glasses and they are suitable for any occasion. However, this will all depend on your lifestyle and whether or not you’re comfortable using contact lenses.

Two Different Prescriptions

Another thing to keep in mind when choosing between glasses and contact lenses is that you will need to have slightly different prescriptions for both. This is because contact lenses sit directly on your eyes, whereas glasses have a bit of distance, and this will alter the kind of prescription you need to make sure you can see properly and aren’t straining your eyes. If you want to change from one to the other or use both, you’ll need to go back to your optometrist to get the correct prescriptions for each.

It might work out for the best if you use both contact lenses and glasses, as this way, you have options. If you want to engage in activities where your glasses could get damaged or be irritating, contact lenses would be the perfect solution, or if you would rather just wear your glasses at home, etc. Either way, it’s always worth trying out both before you make a final decision to see what is the best fit for you.
