Westminster Becomes Only School in the U.S. to Earn Microsoft Showcase Title for Five Consecutive Years

Westminster Christian School in Palmetto Bay has once again earned the Microsoft Showcase School designation, making it the only school in country to earn this title for five consecutive years.  This year, only 38 schools nationwide were designated as Microsoft Showcase Schools.

“We are extremely proud. Our faculty, staff and IT department have worked hard to ensure that the latest Microsoft technology is being used daily in the classroom,” said Omar Valerio, CIO, CTO and IT director at Westminster Christian School.

Microsoft defines Showcase Schools as educational institutions that amplify the use of technology to drive school-wide digital transformation and efficiencies. Microsoft Showcase Schools also emphasize personalized learning for their students through the use of 1:1 learning devices and learning with current technology such as Microsoft Teams, Office 365 Education, OneNote, and more.

In addition to this honor, Microsoft has named Valerio as well as four Westminster teachers as Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts (MIE). Microsoft’s MIE Expert program is aimed at teachers/administrators who have recognized the didactic potential and relevance of digital technologies and who use them innovatively in their lessons. These teachers are: Arlene Castellanos, elementary school enrichment, technology and resource teacher;

Kelly Gordon, middle school science teacher; Claudia Pastrana, PLTW Launch and enrichment teacher; and April Sharpe-Shirk, high school art teacher.

Westminster Christian School, founded in 1961, serves approximately 1,280 students from PK3-Grade 12 in Palmetto Bay, FL.
