Most A-list actors give up their side hustles once they hit the big time—Brad Pitt, for instance, is no longer working as the Pollo Loco chicken mascot between jobs. But when the stars invest in property they’re not using, they rent them out and take on a new role. These are just a few of the Hollywood celebrities who are also landlords.
Leonardo DiCaprio
Since 2015, DiCaprio has been renting out his former home in Palm Springs, which belonged to Dinah Shore before him. For $4,500 a night, you can use a guest house, a pool, a tennis court, and 7.5 bathrooms. DiCaprio also has an apartment in Manhattan he rents for $25,000 a month.
Hannibal Buress
Some celebrities seem well suited to being landlords, like Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, who gave their tenants free rent last April because of the pandemic. And then there’s TV actor (“Broad City”) and comedian Hannibal Buress. On “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” he discussed converting his Chicago building into an Airbnb—and complained about a renter who took too long to leave. He also declared on Twitter that he was against national rent control.
Daniel Radcliffe
The former child actor put that Harry Potter money to good use from the beginning. He bought a $4 million place in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood in 2007 and has been renting it ever since. The luxury building has a pool, but for total privacy, you’ll have to stick to his fancy tub for $19,000 a month.
50 Cent
It’s kind of shocking that the rap star isn’t living in his Connecticut property. What more does a man need than a building with a helipad, nightclub, conference room, and private underground casino? Instead, he’s embraced his calling as a Hollywood celebrity who is also a landlord. Once he learned that he won’t get his asking sales price of $18 million, he started renting it out for $100,000 a month.
Lenny Kravitz
Being a landlord has its rewards. The musician-turned-actor rented his Manhattan apartment to Nicole Kidman—and then got engaged to her. But there’s a downside to property ownership, too. The marriage never came to fruition, and in 2004 Kravitz was sued for damages after a toilet overflowed in his unit. They’re not all happy endings.
