A trip to the dentist is historically not an activity that children look forward to. Pediatric Dentist Dr. Ashley Rosenbaum is all too aware of this fact. That’s why she has made it her mission to change this age-old stereotype about how children perceive the dentist. With Premier Pediatric Dentistry, her new office in Coral Gables, she is making her professional goals in this area a reality.
Making Dentistry Kid-Friendly
Saying you want kids to love your dentist office is one thing, but Dr. Rosenbaum has gone above and beyond to focus her practice on activities and add-ons that make kids happy to be there. She has built her business from the ground up with children in mind and hopes to become the go-to dentist for kids in the Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, Brickell, South Miami and surrounding areas.
When it comes to making her practice kid-friendly, Dr. Rosenbaum knows what kids like: Her office has televisions above every chair, vending machines, a popsicle cart and even video games for kids to play. What’s more, it has a specialized infant room for children under the age of 3 who aren’t quite ready for a traditional dental chair. Overall, the feeling is friendly, personalized and comfortable for kids who may be nervous about going to the dentist. The office is also equipped with state-of-the-art features, and they’ve hand selected all equipment and materials to be the safest and most effective available.
Learning from Experience
Dr. Rosenbaum — who is a board-certified pediatric dentist with a special interest in minimally invasive dental treatment options for children — has years of experience as a dedicated pediatric dentist, so you know that she can be trusted with all your kids’ dental needs. Interestingly, however, it was her experience in corporate dentistry that taught her what she did NOT want to do with her own pediatric practice.
“After working in corporate dentistry for six years, I realized that my passion for pediatric dentistry came from being able to provide honest, personalized, high-quality care in a warm and welcoming environment,” she says. “After years of practicing, I became familiar with the things that I thought were important when it came to caring for children and people. I gathered all these ideas and put them together to create Premier Pediatric Dentistry.”
For Dr. Rosenbaum, this process was the culmination of her years of corporate practice, along with more than two years of intense research into what works best for kids. This combination created the best of both worlds in Dr. Rosenbaum’s practice: the professionalism and quality of care that you’d expect from a corporate dentist office paired with the friendly, at-home feel of a small-town office. The result is dental services that are second to none, along with a staff that truly cares for their patients’ well-being.
Meeting the Dental Needs of Your Kids
Dr. Rosenbaum’s focus on children in her dental practice is not a happy accident. She truly believes that starting good habits early is the key to good dental health later in life. “Our goal is to be sure parents are aware that children should be seeing a pediatric dentist by the age of one and to provide them with a warm and kid-friendly environment that sets our infants and toddlers up for an amazing first-time experience with us,” she says.
To get kids started on the right foot with their dental health, Dr. Rosenbaum says that prevention is the key. “Many dental problems are preventable if habits are caught or educated early,” she says. “When habits such as nighttime bottle feeding are addressed early, you may be able to save your child from the possibility of early childhood cavities. If we can educate parents on how to care for their children’s teeth at an early age and prevent dental disease, we consider this a great success. We prefer to prevent disease rather than treat it.”
In addition to traditional dental techniques, Dr. Rosenbaum offers newer minimally invasive treatment options that are not as readily available in our area, like using silver diamine fluoride, the Hall Technique and Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART) that help children avoid the need for sedation.
All recommended treatments are customized based on a child’s risk factors. “We do not recommend a specific treatment on all children,” she says. “We take pride in customizing a child’s treatment based on their personal needs.”
