Miami Diaper Bank donated over One Million diapers and other essentials

The Miami Diaper Bank (MDB) a local nonprofit organization that helps disadvantaged children in South Florida get the diapers they need has already given out over 1,000,000 diapers across the tri-county area during this pandemic. The increase in direct requests for diapers, in South Florida, stands at 2,700% and counting. Clearly, the financial effects of COVID-19 are driving up the demand; and the increasing COVID-19 cases in the State indicate the situation isn’t going away any time soon. In order to sustain the increased demand for diapers, the Miami Diaper Bank needs your help with donations.

Government assistance programs such as food stamps and WIC do not cover diapers.

The impact of not having enough clean diapers can be extremely severe. Babies can suffer from painful diaper rashes and infections, and also experience long-term effects such as kidney damage. Within the context of the pandemic: many families cannot return to work without diapers as they are required by most daycares.

Thanks to our partnerships with local and national organizations, struggling families in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties have been able to get the diapers they need. In addition to the more than 1,000,000 diapers, we have also provided 33 pallets of baby food, over 10,000 articles of clothing, formula, and baby wipes to families during this financially difficult time.

As Miami Diaper Bank continues to respond to the urgent community need during this global pandemic, we are trying to allow families to shift their focus away from diaper need towards meeting other basic needs, staying healthy and seeking work to make up for lost wages. Donations made to Miami Diaper Bank’s COVID-19 Relief Fund will go toward purchasing, transporting and distributing diapers and baby essentials to the children and families whose lives are impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.
