Maycol Delgado, Senior Consultant, T&S Roofing Systems, Inc.

Any long time homeowner reading this knows how stressful it is when you have roof repairs brisbane that require a professional contractor to come in and fix. It’s even worse when the whole roof needs replacing! Thankfully, those in his service area have Delgado to help make the whole thing easier for them.

Though Delgado says roofing “chose him,” it turned out to be a smart decision. Now a senior consultant with the company, Delgado works directly with clients to help them make their own smart decisions when it comes to not only their roof, but their long term financial commitment. Having maryland roofing contractors come to your home and repair or replace your roof is a big commitment so making sure a homeowner is prepared for that commitment is rather important. We spoke with Delgado about his start in the roofing business, his social media presence and the importance of understanding your customer.

How did you end up working for a roofing company?

To be honest no one dreams of working in the roofing industry, even if there are some great people in it (like the roofing contractors alexandria va for example). When I was younger I wanted to be Warren Buffet. I dreamt of building different companies and being a sought-after businessman. But in our industry they say “you don’t choose roofing, roofing chooses you.” My wife’s then best friend worked at T&S roofing and was very happy there. He spoke very highly about the company. One day I asked if they were hiring; later that week I was sitting in T&S headquarters with my church tie on and a resume in my hand. It was the beginning of my roofing career.

How does a homeowner know when it’s time to replace your roof? What are some signs you need to look into a new option?

The age of the roof is one of the first questions we ask. Most roofs were replaced after Hurricane Andrew in 1992, which means they are 27 years old. The life expectancy can vary depending on the type of roof the customer has. For example, a shingle roof has a life expectancy of 20 years, a tile roof has a life expectancy of 30 years, a flat roof has a shorter life span, but it truly depends on many variables such as drainage of water and type of materials installed. One signs I look for is a history of past repairs… that’s a big one. The past will tell you what your present is. If a roof has a lot of different repairs in more than three locations the roof is telling us that it is time. The roof speaks to us in many different ways, we just need to listen.

What are the most popular roofs these days? Is one option better than another and how does someone decide between them?

This is a topic that I love to address in my videos (@Mike_d_roofer on instagram). There’s pros and cons in any decision we make and this is true in roofing. Many times I find myself talking a customer out of metal and other times recommending metal as their best option. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all system for everyone. Tile, metal, and shingles all have their features, benefits, and challenges. The question is what system fits the homeowners needs. It is my job to find out.

A new roof is a major project for homeowners, how do you make it less stressful for your clients?

I was not born with a silver spoon. My parents worked two or three jobs just to get by. I understand the value of money and it’s a topic I take seriously. I tell all our customers it’s my job to provide all the information in order for them to make an educated decision. Its their job to make that decision. I try to provide all the information I can without any pressure.

A new roof can be one of the most expensive home improvements a homeowner can have. How do you make it accessible for all clients?

This is a topic I love. I didn’t get to be the Wall Street guru I dreamed of, but I did graduate from FIU with a degree in business with a concentration in finance. I love numbers and financial principles. As I said before, there isn’t one solution in roofing and there isn’t one in financing. My goals is to know what the end goal would be for our customer. Is it to pay it off in a short period of time or is it to extend it 10+ years? With my finance background I can help and guide homeowners to the right program.
