On Wednesday, December 12, 2018, the Town Council held its first meeting as a new body—which is composed of new Mayor Tim Meerbott, Vice Mayor Sue Ellen Loyzelle, new Council Member Robert “B.J.” Duncan, Council Member Michael Callahan and re-elected Council Member Roger Coriat. The Meeting, which was held in the Town Hall Council Chambers, went over an 848 page agenda in just 47 minutes and 17 seconds, setting the tone for a new pace.
Although the meeting was swift, it was conducted in a productive and efficient manner, where each Council Member and the public had the opportunity to speak and be heard without haste.
The meeting commenced with Vice Mayor Loyzelle requesting a point of privilege from Mayor Meerbott in order to present her fellow Council Members with a boutonniere in honor of their first meeting as a new body. Prior to the commencement of the meeting, the Mayor presented two proclamations: the first went to Jett Forsythe, a brave young resident who has aided in the rescue of 12 people in the last year; and the second went to CBT College, who has been providing academic and career education in Cutler Bay since 2009 and has been providing the technical and vocational education necessary to our community to obtain gainful employment.
Town Council Meetings are regularly scheduled every third Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. (subject to change due to workshops, public hearings, national holidays and other unforeseen circumstances).
