Summer Camp Guide 2017

Summer Camp 2017: Whether day camp or overnight choosing between general and specialty camps and how to keep kids healthy, safe and cool in Florida heat.

Camp: Alexander Camp

Age range: 18 months to 12 years
With four locations, these camps are designed to be age-appropriate, allowing themselves to be directed by the energy and interests of the campers. Elementary-age campers can choose between an all-around camp with a variety of activities or a sports track with an assortment of sports in the mornings and a focus on instruction in two sports (choices are soccer, basketball, flag football) in the afternoons.

The BizNovator Camp offers hands-on learning, experiences that focus on the creation, evaluation, development, and launch of new businesses or social ventures. Whether it’s a solo-preneur or partnerships, participants are taught and guided through the startup fundamentals of new venture creation.

In the Around the World Camp, campers explore diverse cultures around the world through classes in art, drama, dance, baking, swimming and language. This all-girls camp also offers an Academic SuperCamp, Summer Sports Camp, Mini Movie Makers, Debate Camp, STEM Camp and Coding Camp.

Children ages 5-12 explore Coral Gables through a variety of disciplines and take advantage of the cultural destinations and activities offered by The City Beautiful and the Museum. Learn about art, architecture, history and more!

Camp: Children’s Resource Summer camp

Age Range: Toddlers to 5th Grade
With more than 15 years under their belt, this program caters to children with developmental disabilities, providing a warm, friendly and structured environment that included both academic and non-academic options. From cooking to music and movement, water play and weekly themes, the camp allows children to engage in exciting activities and strengthen social skills.

Camp: Discovery Lab STEAM Camp
Hours: 9 am – 12:30 pm
Age range: 4-9
Let your child explore everything from force and motion to slimey, popping, fizzing matter at this Palmetto Bay science camp that makes learning fun.

Camp: First Girls Camp
Hours: 9 am to 3 pm
Age range: 4 to 10
First Girls Club, Inc. camp provides girls with exciting and innovative activities in the following areas: Arts and Crafts, Dance, and Reading. Our camp also offers weekly field trips, cooking, and etiquette among many other unique activities. At FGC, girls develop character and build lifetime friendships.

With two locations (Pinecrest Community Center and University of Miami) and six camp options (Space and Science, Drama, Dinosaurs, Magic, Video Gaming and Robotics), these camps offer a full day of fun that includes swimming or water play, special shows and outdoor fun in addition to specialty activities tailored to each camp theme.

Camp: Gulliver Summer Athletic Camps

These weekly, full-day camps include: Basketball, Flag Football, Softball, Soccer, Volleyball, Water Polo, Lacrosse, and Baseball. Afternoon combinations with all morning programs are available at an additional charge and include transportation to the Prep and lunch.

Two locations (one on 152nd and one on Franjo Road) offer nine- and seven-week options for students in PreK through 8th grade. Days are spent in everything from morning prayer to sports, language Arts, cooking, dance and field trips with “friends and family” discounts available.

As a leading sport program dedicated to the total development and inclusion of special needs individuals in Miami, this camp provides Learning Enriched Athletic Programs that are designed to promote fun and exercise in which special needs and typical functioning athletes can learn and develop their athletic skills. The coaching staff is highly trained to work with special needs individuals and create programs that everyone can enjoy while maintaining a 5:1 athlete to coach ratio.

Camp: Miami Children’s Museum Explorers Summer Camp

Age range: 4 to 10
The camp uses eight areas to teach children about different aspects of life around the globe: food, world crafts and art, music, dance and performance, language, literacy, geography, and games and sports. Each week campers will discover a new sport and explore the countries where it is most popular. Campers will work closely with a sports coach, a visual artist and the museum’s team of professional actors, the MCM Players.

Don’t miss out on this amazing camp. With more than 15 years experience, and known for producing dancers that have been showcased on “You Think you Can Dance,” Miami Dance Project offers a fun filled camp with first class, trend setting instruction in Hip-Hop. Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Musical Theater, Field Trips, Water Slides, Performances, Themed Sessions and more.

Campers play a variety of sports during four two-week sessions. In addition to the “Sport of the Week,” and special events, campers can swim and take part in indoor games and activities. Educational emphasis is placed on developing a lifestyle with health, fitness and safety in mind.

Camp: Palmer Trinity Summer Experience

Age Range: 2nd Grade to 12th Grade
Summer Experience offers camps for athletics, arts, academics and enrichment. Athletics includes an all- sports camp, a cheer camp and football camps. Academic camps include ones for programming, science and math. Arts includes photography and orchestra camps, while enrichment has workshops on topics like organization and college essays.

Starting with basics (think golf course orientation, rules and etiquette) this camp allows campers to become well acquainted with the world of golf. The curriculum covers full swings with video analysis, short game, mini golf and putting.

Pineview schools offer a summer camp program during June and July, for both toddlers and preschoolers. The Early Childhood Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) curriculum is intended to engage children in experiences that foster the development of the 21st century skills of critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity. Dance the summer away at Pure Dance Camp! This camp allows young dancers to experience ballet, flamenco, jazz, tap, salsa, hip hop, samba and elegant ballroom styles. It also offers instruction to campers in the associated art forms of makeup, scene painting and costume design.

This general day camp is organized to give each camper opportunities for individual growth, forming new friendships, developing teamwork and learning new skills. Activities include swimming, archery and tennis. Located on Biscayne Bay, the camp has its own waterfront facility for sailing and canoeing.

Camp Roig provides preschoolers with a fun learning curriculum that incorporates pre-reading, pre-math, fine-motor, gross-motor, sensory-related and story-related activities. The thematically-inspired program includes water days, computers, cooking and field trips. The Summer Academic Enrichment and Fast ForWord programs for older kids also encourages academic growth through the summertime.

Come spend the summer at Same Tag and learn about acting. Your child will learn about performance technique and production. Camp will also help students get ready for actual auditions by the time summer is over.

KC’s now famous Super Kid Summer Camp has the best coaches and activities a parent and child can ask for. SKC offers fun activities throughout the day like dance competitions, acting, karate, brain games, Lego build-offs, minecraft video games, sports, karaoke and a number of kid-fun activities for your child to choose from.
