Connect a garden hose to the flush port while the engine runs at idle speed for several minutes. This process removes salt crystals, algae, and particles that accumulate during normal operation. Never run the engine without water flow, as dry running can warp components and void your warranty. Some owners also use specialized flushing solutions monthly to dissolve stubborn buildup.

Inspect and Replace the Impeller

The impeller propels your jet ski forward by drawing water through the intake and forcing it out the jet nozzle. Regular inspection prevents small problems from becoming major headaches. Remove the intake grate and check for fishing lines, weeds, or debris wrapped around the impeller shaft.

Look for chips, cracks, or worn edges on the impeller blades, which reduce performance and increase fuel consumption. A damaged impeller creates vibration that can harm the engine and steering components. Every owner should do include this inspection as a maintenance task because impeller problems often develop gradually and go unnoticed until performance suffers dramatically.
