Taking on Illiteracy

In June, the World Literacy Foundation (WLF) announced that Christopher Page would be a World Literacy Foundation Youth Ambassador for 2024. He will serve as a local advocate, aiming to increase education and community awareness about the importance of reading and writing and lift literacy rates throughout Miami.

Christopher will join a global group of 15- to 25-year-olds from 40 countries who are striving to improve literacy outcomes for disadvantaged children who struggle to read.

Christopher, a 15-year-old dynamic team player, has been dedicated to increasing literacy in underrepresented areas for most of his life. As the president of Page by Page, an organization that organizes literacy pop-ups around Florida, he has made a significant local impact. Christopher empowers young children by creating “book fares” where they can take home as many books as possible, instilling a sense of pride in book ownership. Under his leadership, Page by Page distributes over 40,000 books annually to local communities. Looking ahead, Christopher is excited about his future project of virtual libraries, further expanding access to literacy resources.

Christopher is eager to become a WLF ambassador because he admires the organization and was introduced to it by his sister, Lauren Page. The World Literacy Foundation inspires him to continue promoting literacy within his community and beyond. He recognizes that literacy is challenging, especially in underprivileged areas, impacting future employment, daily tasks like reading medication instructions and overall life trajectory. Changing a person’s literacy skills can transform their future and future generations. Christopher is excited to join the WLF to learn new and innovative ways to make a difference and continue the positive changes he has already initiated.

As a World Literacy Foundation Youth Ambassador, Christopher will have the opportunity to develop his leadership skills and play a crucial role in raising awareness about literacy issues in the community. His dedication and innovative ideas will be instrumental in our mission to improve literacy outcomes for disadvantaged children. For more information please visit worldliteracyfoundation.org.
