Results are in and for the seventh year in a row, Miami-Dade County Public Schools has continued to increase Advanced Placement (AP) exam passing rates, while also increasing AP enrollment. More than 30,000 M-DCPS students participated in 2017 AP exams, showing an overall passing rate of 53 percent, a 2 percent increase over the previous year. “Miami-Dade County Public Schools continues to lift the bar on student academic achievement,” said Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho. “Our 2017 AP results show a steady increase in student participation and passing scores since 2010. This means that students are excelling academically through robust, innovative curriculum driven by exemplary school leadership that supports teaching ingenuity.”
Through the AP Program, students have the opportunity to enroll in advanced courses of study and earn college credit and/or AP credit while still enrolled in high school. Taking AP classes that earn college credit can help offset the cost of college, saving students and families thousands of dollars in tuition fees. M-DCPS offers 37 AP courses including art, government, history, languages, literature, math, music, and science.
Since the 2010-2011 school year, M-DCPS has continuously demonstrated increases in both enrollment and percentage of students scoring a 3 or higher on the exams. Other highlights include:
- In 2008, 40 percent of students scored a 3 or higher on the AP exam and in 2017, 53 percent of students scored a 3 or higher, an increase of 13 percentage points.

(52 percent and 30 percent respectively in 2016)
