Color Run to Benefit Palmetto Seeks Sponsorship Green

On November 7, all the colors of the rainbow will sprinkle down on participants of Palmetto Bay’s inaugural Twilight Color Run 5K and Concert to benefit Miami Palmetto Senior High, but for now event organizers are concentrating on just one – collecting enough green to make the fundraising aspect a success.
“It’s going to be a fantastic community event for the whole family,” said Anna Hochkammer, MPSH PTSA president. “It’s untimed, so the primary purpose is fun. People of all ages can enjoy running or walking the route, then stay and enjoy the food and live music afterward.”

Beginning and ending at Palmetto Bay Park, participants will be sprayed with the same type of colored powder used in the Indian holiday celebration of Holi as they continue along the route, painting them in a kaleidoscope of color by the finish line.

The Village of Palmetto Bay is putting on the event for Palmetto High’s benefit, with all proceeds going toward creating a state-of-the-art weight training facility for use by the 1,200 students in PE classes and on athletic teams. The community event school fundraising partnership is a first for the Village of Palmetto Bay. “It is a natural fit for the Village of Palmetto Bay to use of our parks to support our schools,” said Palmetto Bay Mayor Eugene Flinn. “We’re the Village of Parks, and that and our great public schools are the biggest reasons people move to Palmetto Bay.”

The Village of Palmetto Bay is administering the event and waiving all fees associated with use of their park, roadways and police support, a considerable in-kind donation to offset the costs of the event. But in order to raise the $15,000 needed for the school’s weight room, the PTSA needs local businesses to help offset the other event expenses. This could be why many establishments have decided to see how school fundraisers, and that extra bit of money that gets donated can help them to raise the cash needed to fund such possibilities. Various sponsorship recognition packages are available according to level of donation.

“Local business should want to participate,” said Mayor Flinn. “Their customers and future customers are the parents and students at Palmetto High. If you’ve invested your business in the area, you need to help ensure the success of your community and one of the best ways you can do that is to help out your neighborhood schools.” Current Gold Level Sponsors are The Corradino Group and Williamson Automotive. MAPFRE Florida Insurance is a Silver Level Sponsor, and Fit2Run in Dadeland Mall is an in-kind sponsor of the race packets.
