Water is such a standard part of life that we often take it for granted. Have you ever stopped to think about where your drinking water comes from and what’s in it? And how much do you know about the different types of drinking water that are available? Read this article to learn more about each type and its benefits.
Tap Water
Tap water is the water that flows directly from the faucets in your home. Usually, it comes from a dam filled with water from a major water source like a river or rainwater. The water is then cleaned and disinfected at a water treatment center and transported to your home through pipes in the ground. Tap water is great for household tasks involving water and, in most cases, is safe to drink. However, this is not always the case-if you want to drink your tap water, it’s best to first purify it further.
Purified Water
Purified water is any water that has been either filtered or purified to eliminate any contaminants. Water purification can occur either at a public water treatment plant or within the home. If you are concerned about the cleanliness of your tap water, this might be one reason to have a household water filtration system, as it’ll help to keep your family’s water safe.
Mineral Water
Mineral water is drawn from mineral-rich water sources and goes through only the most basic of filtration and purification processes to retain these minerals. Because it contains minerals like calcium, magnesium, and sulfur, mineral water can be healthier for you than regular water. However, it’s often more expensive than tap water or other kinds of bottled water.
Distilled Water
Water that has been boiled into steam then condensed back into its liquid form is known as distilled water. This process removes the minerals and salts in water, distilling it to the purest form. Mostly, you can find bottled distilled water in supermarkets, pharmacies, and even home water distillers. The downside of distilled water is that because it’s so purified, it won’t contain any of the minerals that give less purified types of water their additional health benefits.
Sparkling Water
If you’ve ever had water with a little bit of fizz, that’s sparkling water. Sometimes known as carbonated water, this type of water has been infused with carbon dioxide gas while pressurized. Sparkling water can be sweetened, and some types are made from mineral water.
With a little knowledge of the different types of drinking water, you can successfully choose the type that is cleanest and safest for you and your family. And there’s no harm in experimenting with a few new types to see which you like best!
