Monroe County Celebrates Parks and Recreation Month

The Monroe County Board of County Commissioners proclaimed July 2026 as Parks and Recreation Month, recognizing the important role parks, beaches, trails, athletic facilities, community centers, and recreational programs play in enhancing the quality of life throughout the Florida Keys.

Parks and Recreation Month is celebrated nationwide by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) to highlight the positive impact of parks and recreation in building healthier, stronger, and more connected communities.

“Our parks and recreation professionals work every day to create safe, welcoming spaces where families can gather, children can play, and everyone can experience the outdoors,” said Monroe County Mayor Michelle Lincoln. “We encourage everyone to take advantage of the incredible parks, beaches, trails, and recreational opportunities available throughout the Keys and join us in recognizing the dedicated staff and volunteers who make these experiences possible.”

Residents and visitors are encouraged to:

  • Visit one of Monroe County’s parks or beaches.
  • Explore local natural areas.
  • Participate in recreational programs and community events.
