This morning, a volunteer at The Humane Society of Greater Miami made a heart-wrenching discovery: three malnourished and frightened puppies wandering the shelter grounds. Shortly thereafter, a battered cage containing four additional puppies was located, emitting a strong odor of urine and feces. These vulnerable animals had been left exposed to the harsh Miami sun, without food or water, and were in desperate need of immediate assistance. Our dedicated staff quickly provided them with essential veterinary care.
Unfortunately, all seven puppies have tested positive for Giardia and Coccidia and are currently undergoing treatment. This distressing situation mirrors a similar incident from last month when eight dogs were abandoned outside our shelter. These recurring incidents highlight a troubling pattern that severely strains our resources and capacity.
“We are in a state of crisis,” said Jossie Aguirre, Executive Director of The Humane Society of Greater Miami. “Our shelter is beyond capacity, and the continuous abandonment of animals is exerting immense pressure on our resources. We urgently need the community’s support to manage this escalating situation and provide these animals with the care they so desperately need.”
We urgently call upon the community to assist through adoption or fostering opportunities. Financial donations are also critical to covering the medical treatments and care required for these animals.
