5 Tips for Staying Comfortable on a Long Flight

Are you preparing for a multi-hour plane trip? Uncover the best ways to stay comfortable on a long flight. Kick off your adventure the right way.

5 Tips for Staying Comfortable on a Long Flight

Long flights can be exhausting, especially in such a confined space with uncomfortable seats. However, a little preparation can make the experience more bearable and even enjoyable. Aside from ditching the middle seat, you should dress properly, pack the essentials, and try relaxing. In this blog post, we’ll share our best tips for staying comfortable on a long flight.

Wear the Right Clothes

Wear clothes that are easy to layer and keep you comfortable in changing temperatures on the day of your flight. You may want to bring a light sweater or jacket, a scarf, and comfortable shoes. Avoid wearing too tight or constricting clothing as it can make sitting for long periods difficult.

Strive to add a non-metal belt for airport security to your outfit when wearing jeans. Unlike a metal buckle belt, you don’t have to remove a TSA-approved plastic buckle belt. Therefore, you can move through security swiftly and can relax by your gate.

Pack a Travel Pillow

Resting during a flight is important to curb jet lag and help you arrive at your destination feeling fresh. A travel pillow can provide neck support, especially if you plan on sleeping during the flight. Choose from different types of travel pillows, such as inflatable or memory foam, to find the one that most closely matches your preferences.

If you’ve never used a travel pillow, go to the store and evaluate your options. Once you have your pillow, pack it into your carry-on.

Bring a Snack

Although most airlines will provide food and drinks, having something to nibble on is always a good idea. This is particularly important if you have dietary restrictions or preferences. You can pack snacks like trail mix, granola bars, or fruit.

Keep in mind that any liquid foods or foods with a pasty consistency—such as yogurt or peanut butter—must follow the 3.4 oz rule. Any liquids or pastes on the plane must fit into a quart-sized bag for security. After TSA, you may buy liquids or pastes of any size from airport kiosks to bring on the plane.

Prepare Some Entertainment

Long flights can be boring. So, another tip for staying comfortable on a long flight is to establish ways to keep yourself occupied. Downloading movies or episodes of your favorite show on a tablet or laptop can be a great option. Alternatively, you can play games on your favorite electronic device, read a book, or listen to music. Having various options will make the flight more enjoyable and feel shorter.

Try To Relax

Sitting on a plane can increase stress levels as you sit in the same spot for hours. If you feel your tension rising, take a few deep breaths. Try thinking about what you’ll do after landing and deboarding as you embark on your adventure.

Traveling can be a great experience, but long flights can be daunting. You’ll arrive at your destination ready for adventure when you prepare for the long travel. Bon voyage!
