Wings for Wishes Was a Soaring Success

Make-A-Wish Southern Florida’s ninth annual Wings for Wishes event took place on March 4, and it helped make a whole lot of local kids’ wishes come true.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation has been granting the wishes of critically ill children in America since 1981, and this year marks the 40th anniversary of Make-A-Wish Southern Florida. Since their inception, the organization has granted more than 13,000 life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses. The goal of the organization is to grant a wish for every medically eligible child in its territory.

For the past nine years, Make-A-Wish Southern Florida has held their annual “Wings for Wishes” event as a major fundraiser to grant wishes for area children. This year’s event took place on Saturday, March 4, at Sports Grill South Miami.

The event was a smashing success, with more than 1,500 attendees, live music, activities for kids and even a wing-eating competition where competitive eater Nick Wehry took down 172 wings in 10 minutes. All told, the event raised more than $400,000 for area kids, enough to grant 80 life-changing wishes for critically ill children in South Florida.
