The Reporter is Named Top College Student Newspaper, Again

Miami Dade College’s award-winning newspaper The Reporter was recently named the top college student newspaper in Florida for the 12th consecutive year at the Florida College System Publications Association conference and awards ceremony.

The Reporter placed in 15 of 19 individual categories including 14 first-place awards. The competition was based on newspapers printed during the 2021–22 school year. The Reporter accumulated 44 overall points.

In addition to placing first overall in general excellence, The Reporter was awarded individual top honors for News Story, Feature Story, Sports Writing, News Photo, Feature Photo, Sports Photo, Picture Story, Sports Column, Editorial Cartoon, Illustration, General Column, Humor Column, Comic Strip and Website. Also, Sanchez and Danna Quintero won an Inner Circle award for placing top three in three different categories.

The Reporter features 16 pages, prints on a monthly schedule, has a circulation of 10,250 per print cycle and is supplemented by a biweekly newsletter and a website with video and audio content. It is distributed at all eight MDC campuses and has newsrooms at the North, Wolfson and Kendall campuses. In the past 12 years, the paper has won 178 awards from the FCSPA, including 112 first-place honors.
