Bucket-List Fishing Trips Every Angler Should Take

Are you looking to take a once-in-a-lifetime fishing trip but aren’t sure where to go? We’ve got some ideas for you in our bucket list of fishing destinations!

Bucket-List Fishing Trips Every Angler Should Take

One of the joys of fishing is that it can take you to new places you might never experience otherwise. If you’re putting together a bucket list of fishing destinations to visit, check out our list of fishing trips every angler should take!

Kona, Hawaii

If you love deep-sea fishing, there’s no shortage of incredible destinations worldwide. If you ask us, one deep sea fishing expedition every angler should experience is fishing for blue marlin off the coast of Kona, Hawaii.

We all know how beautiful and scenic Hawaii is, but for anglers, the real beauty would be reeling in one of the enormous blue marlins that populate the coast of Kona. Summer is the peak season for deep sea fishing in Kona, but since the blue marlin is so close to the shore year-round, there’s no bad time to visit.

Key West, Florida

It may seem biased to put a Florida destination, but ask any expert angler, and they’ll tell you Key West is about more than just beaches and sun! Key West is saltwater fishing heaven for anglers and one of the best fly fishing spots in Florida and the country.

Whether you love inshore fishing, deep sea fishing, or fly fishing, you can do it all in Key West and come across all sorts of fish species, including:

  • Sailfish
  • Kingfish
  • Blackfin
  • Tarpon
  • Permit

And the beautiful weather year-round doesn’t hurt either!

Mille Lacs Lake, Minnesota

We could list a bunch of beautiful destinations with warm weather and sparkling beaches, but every avid angler should have an ice fishing trip on their bucket list too! There are plenty of places to ice fish around the world, but in the United States, there’s nothing quite like the experience of fishing the frozen Mille Lacs Lake in Minnesota.

When this lake freezes, thousands of ice anglers congregate to fish for walleye, northern pike, panfish, and more. It’s like being in a frozen city—they even have trucks plow roads over the ice! Don’t forget your parka.

Cairns, Australia

Every angler with the means should also consider taking a trip south to experience the incredible fishing adventures available in Australia. There are plenty of places to try, but if you’re going Down Under, we recommend one of the best deep-sea fishing locations in the world, Cairns.

Cairns sees thousands of anglers visit during spring (September-December in Australia) to catch a “grander,” a blue marlin weighing over 1,000 pounds! What could be a better fishing trip than that?

Turneffe Atoll, Belize

Another incredible international fishing destination that anglers should put on their bucket list is the bonefish paradise in Belize. Located in Central America, Belize is a beautiful hidden gem with gorgeous scenery and waters to fish in.

The Turneffe Atoll is famous worldwide for crystal-clear waters brimming with bonefish and a massive permit population to boot. Getting there may be a bit of an experience, but we’re sure you won’t regret it when you see the waters and bonefish!
