A few of us out here in Florida suffer from allergies all year long, which can be a pain. Try living with sinus issues and sneezing fits—it’s no fun. However, instead of waiting until the symptoms become unbearable before treating them, there are a few ways you can prevent your allergy symptoms from worsening.
If you’re looking for ways other than medication to reduce your recovery time and get back to normal, here are some alternative ways to relieve allergy symptoms.
Clean Common Areas Daily
Allergens are common in dusty, neglected areas of the home. Take the time each day to clean the areas of your home you spend the most time in. These areas include the foyer, kitchen, living room, and bedrooms. Although no miracle product eliminates every allergen in the air, a few cleaning products for people with allergies will do the trick. If your home has carpet, vacuum weekly to catch any dust or animal fur.
Hit the Showers
After a long day of work, school, or running errands, the best thing to do is take a shower. Those outdoor allergens can attach to your clothing and follow you indoors. To prevent your entire household from sneezing, sniffling, and coughing, hit the showers as soon as you get home and throw your clothes in the laundry basket.
Keep Yourself Hydrated
Drinking plenty of water, sugar-free juice, and tea can help alleviate your allergy symptoms. Hydration thins the mucus collecting in your sinuses, making it easier to extract. Additionally, drinking broth and eating nutrient-rich soup will help clear sore throats and clogged sinuses.
Wash Your Laundry Weekly
Another alternative way to relieve allergy symptoms is washing your bedding and clothing every week in hot water. This can help reduce your exposure to pollen, animal fur, and dust.
When we come home after a long day, it’s tempting to flop on the couch or lay down in bed. However, there’s a chance that tiny allergens latched onto your clothing and made their way around the house. So, to be safe, wash your laundry weekly and disinfect it daily.
Take a Trip to the Beach
Believe it or not, taking a quick trip to the beach is a great alternative to staying in bed all day. The ocean breeze makes beaches great for year-round allergy sufferers. That breeze blows away allergens and provides moisture, keeping your nasal passages moist and healthy.
