Canes Legend Jon Jay to Host UMSHoF Celebrity Bowling Tournament

seball World Champion Jon Jay will serve as host of the UMSHoF’s 11th Annual Celebrity Bowling Tournament, on Monday, August 22nd, from 6-9 p.m., at Kings Dining and Entertainment in Doral.

Jon Jay retired this spring after playing 12 years in Major League Baseball for 7 teams, including winning a World Series ring in 2011 with the St. Louis Cardinals, the team that drafted him in the Second Round of the 2006 MLB Draft.  A two-time ACC First Team Selection and 2nd Team Baseball America All-American in 2005, Jay was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.

Canes fans can bowl with some of their favorite former Canes all-stars in a relaxing evening of family fun, food and Hurricanes camaraderie.  Other Hurricane greats who have attended past bowling tournaments include Reggie Wayne, Duke Johnson, Bennie Blades, Charles Johnson, Clinton Portis, Steve Edwards, Santana Moss, Albert Bentley, Bubba Franks, Brett Romberg, KC Jones, Randal Hill, Eric Brown, Tracy Kerdyk, Darrin Smith and Heisman Trophy winner Gino Torretta.

Teams start at $500 for four bowlers, regular sponsor lanes are $1200 and premium sponsor lanes are $1700.    Social tickets can be purchased for $75 for adults (T-shirt included) and $25 for children under 12.

Once again, this year, Hurricanes fans across the country can join the fun by having a “Satellite Bowling Team” for $350.  Register your team and reserve a lane in your town, you’ll receive your t-shirts in the mail and can bowl and support the Hall of Fame.  Last year, Kenny Calhoun and Eddie Williams participated as “satellite bowlers”.

This year, a portion of the proceeds from the event will go to the Jon Jay Foundation.  The event is at Kings Dining & Entertainment at 3450 N.W. 83rd Ave., Suite 152 in CityPlace Doral.
