Bet Shira Congregation Introduces New Rabbi

Bet Shira Congregation, South Dade’s only Conservative Jewish synagogue, has entered an exciting new era with the retention of Rabbi Jesse Charyn as its spiritual leader, effective on July 1, 2022.

“We are delighted to welcome Rabbi Charyn to Bet Shira,” said Bet Shira President Steven Goldstein. “Rabbi Charyn has impressed us with his spirituality, his energy and his personal magnetism. In his first few weeks with us, he has already demonstrated a special impact on our congregation with his immediate influence on our prayer services, Torah study, religious education for children and social programs.”

Rabbi Charyn is a speaker, teacher, chaplain, outdoor enthusiast and dedicated Jewish leader with diverse religious experience. Born and raised in Chattanooga, Tenn., he attended Young Judea’s Year Course in Israel before making aliyah (immigration) to Israel and serving in the Israel Defense Force’s Golani Special Forces from 2003-2006.
His strong relationship with Israel also included staffing several Birthright Israel trips and serving as a Birthright Fellow.

A graduate of Arizona State University, Rabbi Charyn pursued post-graduate studies at the Ziegler School for Rabbinic Studies, the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, the Conservative Yeshiva and Arizona State University. Before leading Bet Shira, he served as Rabbi/Director of Spiritual Care at Miami Jewish Health Systems.

Rabbi Charyn views his family as his greatest achievement, sharing his life with his wife of 12 years Shira and three daughters, four-year old daughter Rayna and twin two-year-old daughters Navah and Zivah.

Bet Shira, House of Song, is an inclusive, egalitarian Conservative synagogue embracing tradition and change. Our synagogue is a spiritual home where our congregants and their families can develop a closer relationship with God and with each other through inspiring worship, beautiful music, exciting learning opportunities, diverse and innovative programming for all ages, and meaningful Tikkun Olam, making the world a better place.
