Best Activities for Enjoying Winter in Florida

Florida is a haven from the frigid winter cold, but what can a family do in the offseason? Check out the best activities for enjoying winter in Florida.

Best Activities for Enjoying Winter in Florida

Both Floridians and snowbirds flocking from the north to escape their frigid Northern homes are eager for the sunny weather and blue waters during the winter months. Even though November to February is the offseason of this warm oasis, there are still tons of sights to see and places to experience.

What are the best activities for enjoying winter in Florida? From off-roading to swimming with manatees and Christmas at Disney World, there’s plenty of things for everyone in your family to enjoy!

Hang Out With Manatees

During winter, the Crystal River becomes home to manatees seeking refuge from the dropping water temperatures in nearby areas. More specifically, the wetland refuge that surrounds Three Sisters Springs harbors hundreds of manatees every year.

You can view them from the scenic boardwalk or get in the water with these gentle giants of the sea. Visitors can swim, snorkel, or paddle alongside these sweet souls in crystal clear water.

Celebrate the Holidays at Disney World

Have you ever visited the happiest place on Earth during the happiest time of year? You should! Not only will admission be less expensive, but the crowds will be smaller and the sweltering temperatures nonexistent.

Disney wears the holiday spirit in every corner of the park, culminating with Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. And if you’re a runner, you should visit in January and register for the races. You can choose between 5K, 10K, a half marathon, or a full marathon.

Off-Roading on the Beach

There aren’t many places in the United States that you can experience off-roading in the dead of winter, but Florida is one of them. The Sunshine State offers tons of off-roading spots, like the Withlacoochee State Forest, a massive state forest with thousands of acres two hours from Cape Canaveral.

Or if you’re on the Gulf side of the state, check out Lazy Springs Recreation Park to experience off-roading, and when you’re done, you can go wave running, fishing, or waterskiing.

Take care when you’re off-roading on sand, as you’ll need to take some precautions to ensure your safety due to the lack of traction. Stay safe and enjoy all the best activities for enjoying winter in Florida!
