AXS Law Group Celebrates Women’s History Month with New Exhibition Featuring South Florida Female Artists

AXS LAW Group, in collaboration with Font Squared, is hosting a Women’s History Month exhibition highlighting the latest artistic works from a diverse group of emerging and established female artists based in South Florida. The new exhibition titled “(Brave) New World, (Bold) New Rules” is free and open to the public by appointment only, now through May 31, 2021.

AXS LAW hosted an intimate, invite-only cocktail reception and gallery tour with four of the artists on Wednesday, March 24th, from 6-9 p.m., which included a Q&A with the artists moderated by Emmy Award-winning journalist, producer and TV personality Cynthia Demos. The gallery tour was livestreamed on Facebook and Instagram through AXS LAW’s social media channels.

A nod to English writer and philosopher Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World” novel, the exhibition poses the idea that we now live in a new world and need to develop new rules to create a truly free, more equitable and sustainable society. The exhibition features art pieces around this idea as presented by the following South Florida female artists:

  • Jean Blackwell FontCo-founder of Warehouse 4726, a mixed media artist, an arts marketer and administrator in Miami, Florida. Influenced by artists Betty Saar, Doris Salcedo, and Joseph Cornell, Font has developed a visual vocabulary to express ideas and concepts through collage and assemblage. Her artwork has garnered the attention of important collectors in Miami and is now a part of Florida International University Special Collections.
  • Nadyia Duff – A Jamaican/American artist, art educator and museum educator, Duff creates elaborate narratives using her method of drawing and painting. She combines the painterly and realistic. Every layer is a unique and uncalculated build up of mediums and color. The juxtaposition of roughly drawn background imagery and the detailed subject imagery creates vast visual narratives.
  • Mila HajjarBorn in Rome, Italy, and raised in Venezuela, Hajjar is a plastic artist who has participated in more than 150 exhibitions, between individual and collective, in the United States, Europe, Latin America and Asia. She has won several awards including the Soho International Art in New York, the International Art Show d ‘Estiu in Catalonia, Spain, and the first prize at the Maneiro Art Salon in Venezuela. She graduated with honors in architecture from the Federico II Faculty in Naples, Italy, and did other studies at the Szombathely University in Hungary and at the Carabobo University, in Venezuela.
  • Mary Larsen – Raised in New York City, Larsen attended an art magnet high school then studied printmaking and filmmaking at Hampshire College. Her education continued through her extensive travels throughout Europe, India, Nepal and China, filling sketchbooks and immersing herself in the art and culture of each place. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Florida International University. She has lived, worked and exhibited in New York City, San Francisco, San Juan, and Miami. Her work is in corporate and individual collections in New York, Miami, and San Juan.
  • Marilyn ValienteA Cuban-American visual artist living in South Florida, Valiente earned her bachelor’s degree in art education from the University of Florida, and continued her education in psychology earning a master’s degree in mental health counseling and a PhD in pastoral psychology. She practiced her skills as a psychotherapist for many years treating people with various mental health disorders. For the last 20 years, Valiente has become very active pursuing her love for the visual arts; entering exhibitions, fine art festivals and art competitions. She is a signature member of both the Miami Watercolor Society and the Florida Watercolor Society. She holds numerous awards, including “Best in the Show” in the Broward Art Guild 2019, and first place in the Spring 2018 Miami Watercolor Society exhibition. She is the president of the Coral Gables chapter of The National League of American Pen Women.

“We are so honored to be hosting an exclusive art exhibition with these inspiring female artists representing a variety of different genres,” said Jeffrey Gutchess, co-founder of AXS LAW Group. “Our law firm is deeply committed to supporting South Florida’s creative communities and we hope this exhibition excites and inspires locals to immerse themselves more in our amazing art scene.
