United Way of Miami-Dade has launched the Pandemic Impact Survey to measure how Miami-Dade households have been affected by COVID-19 and assess the financial and household burdens the pandemic has caused on our community’s families and small businesses. The rapid spread of the virus has exposed critical risks to our economy and systems of health care and education.
As we approach the 12-month mark of this prolonged process, survey responses will provide critical insight about local challenges and identify ways our organization and community partners can plan, coordinate and adapt services to support those in need, as well as, inform our long-term recovery efforts. The survey aims to collect responses from a wide range of households, income levels, as well as small business owners.
The survey will augment our ALICE Report which United Way of Miami-Dade and United Ways across the country publish every two years. The report shines a light on the number of families struggling to make ends meet even before there was the additional economic stressors of the pandemic. These hardworking ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) residents, although employed, are living paycheck to paycheck barely able to cover basic needs like housing, child care, medical expenses, food, utilities and transportation. With 5 out of 10 households (54%) in Miami-Dade County living in, or one emergency away from, poverty, the pandemic has exacerbated an already difficult situation, creating more long-lasting financial obstacles.
The Pandemic Impact Survey will be open until March 26, 2021 and should take about 10 minutes to complete. Responses are confidential, and no one will be able to associate a name with a response. The survey is available in English and Spanish, with the Haitian Creole version to be available on March 8.
