Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are donating 20,000 chef-prepared frozen meals from Tiller & Hatch Supply Co., their line of high-quality and nutritious food, to unemployed hospitality and restaurant workers across South Florida, who have either been laid off or furloughed due to COVID-19.
Helping to distribute these meals is a local 16-year-old named Henry Hurowitz who started FoodEASE, a volunteer-based organization whose goal is to fight hunger while reducing food waste in our community. Pre COVID-19, Henry spent his free time rescuing food from local hotels and delivering the unsellable yet fresh food to nearby homeless shelters.
Now the tables have turned. He is helping feed the employees of local hotels.
The giveaway of at least 8K of these free meals starts this Saturday at the Newport Beachside Hotel & Resort, and includes employees of the adjacent Beach Bar restaurant at the Newport Pier. Other hotels slated to receive the donated meals include The Shelborne South Beach, DoubleTree By Hilton Ocean Point Resort, The Mayfair at Coconut Grove, and The Mondrian South Beach.
This effort is part of a larger distribution with Food Rescue US who will distribute an additional 12,000 meals throughout South Florida next week. Until then, the Newport Beachside Hotel & Resort has offered to safely store all the meals in their freezers.
