5 Ways to Make Moving Less Stressful

Whether this is your first move or you’ve moved before, moving is undoubtedly stressful. However, there are some ways to make moving less stressful. We cover all the ways you can make your move smoother and possibly even enjoyable.

Don’t Procrastinate

Has procrastinating ever got you anywhere in life? It certainly won’t help you with moving. If you wait until the last few days to pack up your belongings, you’ll feel rushed and stressed, and your packing will be unorganized. If you just plan ahead of time, the packing process will be much easier and more organized, allowing you to easily unpack and locate belongings later.

Create Lists

We recommend that you put together a few lists to stay organized. First, you should have a to-do list that entails tasks such as cleaning the kitchen or returning the box for your TV provider. Second, having a checklist of your belongings will help you avoid forgetting important items. Lastly, you could develop a list that deciphers the notes on your boxes. If you take the time to develop any or all these lists, you’ll have an organized and painless move.

Make Unpacking Easy on Yourself

You should develop a system for labeling your boxes. If you don’t, you’ll never find what you need. For instance, you could make your own code: maybe B would stand for Bathroom. That way you can easily identify what’s in all the boxes. Not to mention, unpacking in your new place will take time—if you develop a list and make note of what’s in box B1,for example, you can easily find what you need until you’re fully unpacked.

Work on One Room at a Time

Too many people get overwhelmed or frustrated when they’re packing, and they end up jumping from room to room. Instead, focus on packing one room at a time. When you finish packing one room, then you can move to a different room. Consider decluttering, throwing away, recycling, or donating items while packing. That way you’ll have less to pack, move, and unpack.

Hire Someone to Clean the Place Up

Don’t be that person who leaves the place trashed just because they’re leaving. Plus, if you’re leaving a rental, the landlord might require a deep clean. To avoid the added stress of deep cleaning, consider hiring a move-out cleaning service. They’re experts in cleaning, and you’re probably not. Plus, your landlord may give you your security deposit back for leaving the place clean.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve moved dozens of times in your life—moving is rarely an enjoyable process. However, you can make the process much easier by simply using some of our recommendations to make moving less stressful.
