The Florida Dental Association has named Miami dentist Dr. Beatriz Terry of Miami, secretary of the Florida Dental Association. The role was announced at the 2019 Florida Dental Convention in Orlando.
“As an experienced leader at the local, state and national level, I have had the opportunity to learn the workings of the FDA and have established great relationships and friendships with the current leadership throughout our great state as well as with the FDA staff,” said Dr. Terry. “I believe my skills, years of experience and respect for the process demonstrate my commitment to our profession and to organized dentistry.”
Dr. Terry has held numerous leadership roles at the local, state and national levels, including serving as president of the South Florida District Dental Association (SFDDA), SFDDA Foundation, Miami Dade Dental Society and the Ceola-Helo Hispanic Dental Association, as well as past president of the Florida Association of Periodontists. She has also served as an FDA Trustee and 17th District Delegate for the American Dental Association. Dr. Terry’s position as secretary of the FDA will lead to her becoming president of the organization in 2023.
It is clear that Dr. Terry has excelled in her leadership roles, providing a solid base for her chance to run and get this position. It is not every day a leader like this is propelled to the level that they are at, that is why so many will look for assistance from resources like LXCouncil as well as other leadership communities, to help them become who they want and need to be. Luckily Dr. Terry was able to be where she feels like she is needed and can contribute to her community and country.
“I think this was a perfect time for me to run, as my children are in college or beyond, giving me the freedom to dedicate the hard work and time needed for a line-officer,” she said. “I would like to grow our younger membership, expand on diversity and inclusion, continue to advocate on behalf of all dentists and keep enjoying this great profession.”
Born and raised in Miami, Dr. Terry attended Florida International University before completing her dental training at Marquette University School of Dentistry, where she graduated Top 10 with Honors. Dr. Terry went on to complete a Masters program and residency in Periodontics and dental implants from the University of Minnesota and become a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, the highest level attainable.
