Inter Miami CF announces today it has signed Venezuelan U-20 Team Captain Christian Makoun as its third player in Club history, pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa.
The versatile 19-year-old, who plays at defensive midfield and center back, comes to Inter Miami CF via transfer from Zamora F.C. of Venezuela’s First Division.
“We are happy to add a young player with solid experience both in Europe and South America to Inter Miami’s roster,” said Inter Miami CF Sporting Director Paul McDonough. “Christian is a grounded player of good character and maturity. He has shown us that he strives to represent himself and his home country at the highest level, and this is the mindset we want to build at Inter Miami.”
The left-footed player recently returned to Venezuela in July after being on loan with Juventus for the 2018-19 season. Makoun made 21 appearances for Juventus scoring three goals for the U-23 team, including appearing in 13 regular-season matches along with seven in the UEFA Youth League and one in Copa Italia.
Born in Valencia, Carabobo, Makoun joined Zamora F.C. in 2016 and has 35 appearances across all competitions for the First Division, including 22 regular-season matches, nine in COPA Venezuela as well as a pair in both COPA Libertadores and COPA Sudamericana.
The Venezuelan national, who also holds a Belgium citizenship, has captained Venezuela’s U-20 team and made two appearances in the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup, where the Vinotintos fell 1-0 to England in the final.
