MDCA to host International Children’s Day

The Miami-Dade County Auditorium (MDCA) will host International Children’s Day (Día Internacional del Niño) on Sunday, July 21, 2-6 p.m. This FREE event incorporates arts & crafts, food, activities and theatre workshops for children and families, culminating with performances by both participating kids and a professional visiting theatre troupe.

This year’s traveling work is a delightful puppetry performance by Los Claveles from Murcia, Spain called Siete Cabritillos (Seven Baby Goats). It is the story of seven baby goats who disobey their mother’s orders not to let the wolf into their home. Their mother, along with the courage and ingenuity of the youngest, will give the ferocious predator just what he deserves. The play is written by Paca García and Aniceto Roca, who is also the director.

The schedule of events on Sunday, July 21st include:

  • 2-3 p.m. – Arts & crafts, entertainment, face painting and snacks
  • 3-4 p.m. – Painting and puppetry workshop
  • 4-5 p.m. – Music and percussion workshop
  • 5-6 p.m. – Performance of Seven Baby Goats (Siete Cabritillos)

International Children’s Day is part of MDCA’s Hot Theatre Summer Series and co-presented through a partnership with Teatro Avante’s 34th International Hispanic Theatre Festival of Miami. The Hot Theatre Summer Series runs from July 12 through August 11, providing audiences with a selection of Hispanic theatre performances from the U.S., Latin America and Spain. The series offers cultural programming through live theatre experiences, giving audiences the opportunity to enjoy performances during the summer months.

In an effort to engage a broader audience, MDCA has successfully partnered with Culture Shock Miami, a student discount ticket program for the arts, to attract students ages 13-22. MDCA also participates in the Golden Ticket Arts Guide, that provides low-income seniors ages 62 and over with free tickets to cultural events.

MDCA, located at 2901 W. Flagler St. Miami, FL 33135, opened its doors in 1951 and has served as one of the oldest and most prominent performing arts centers in the South Florida region. The 2,372-seat, multi-purpose theater is known for its wide range of reputable cultural performances throughout its history.
