Amerant Bank to Sponsor Free Passport Program at HistoryMiami Museum

HistoryMiami Museum is kicking off it’s Summer Passport Program Sponsored by Amerant Bank that provides free access to the museum for all children in Miami-Dade County. The program, which is available from June 7, 2019 until August 18, 2019, offers children an exciting educational adventure while exploring South Florida’s rich past.

The passports can be picked up at the museum’s front desk, which is located at 101 W. Flagler Street in Downtown Miami. Each passport offers free admission to each child and their family members (up to four people per passport). After every museum visit, the child will receive a stamp in one of the passport’s four boxes. Once all four boxes are stamped, the child will be allowed to pick an exciting prize from a specially curated treasure box.

“We are looking forward to opening our doors to students and their families this summer with our Summer Passport Program,” said Jorge Zamanillo, Executive Director of HistoryMiami Museum. “HistoryMiami’s core mission is to share Miami’s unique stories. By taking cost away and making entrance to the museum free, we’re making South Florida’s great history accessible to all.”

Throughout the summer, kids and their families can not only experience the history of Miami through the museum’s permanent displays, but can also enjoy another special exhibition.

Queer Miami: A History of LGBTQ Communities which chronicles Miami’s queer past, reflecting its gender and sexual diversity for over one hundred years. Through artifacts, photographs, archival footage, and more, the exhibition displays the stories of Miami’s queer communities who, despite discrimination, isolation, and violence, managed to carve out spaces for themselves and made their voices heard in southern Florida.

“Whether you enjoy the history of Miami’s music scene or learning about the stories that make Miami, Miami, we have something for everyone at HistoryMiami. We can’t wait to see everyone at the museum this summer,” said Zamanillo.
