Town and East Ridge Partner Up to Host Active Adults’ Sadie Hawkins Dance

On Thursday, February 14, 2019, The Town of Cutler Bay partnered with East Ridge to host a Sadie Hawkins Dance for Active Adults aged 55 and over. The Sadie Hawkins Dance is an informal dance where women take the initiative by inviting the man of their choice out on a date or asks a man out to the dance floor.

Over 40 guests in attendance rocked around the clock to their favorite 70’s tunes. As the ladies entered a Valentine’s Day themed auditorium, they were welcomed with a beautiful pin corsage. Guests also enjoyed a delicious arrangement of light snacks, refreshments and desserts catered by East Ridge, however, the chocolate fountain proved to be the most popular snack choice of the night. By a show of all the dancing, conversation and smiles during the event, it was evident that guests where enjoying themselves.

“The idea of having a Sadie Hawkins Dance came about at one of our Communities For a Lifetime Advisory Committee Meeting,” stated Town Manager Rafael G. Casals. “Town staff then met with representatives from East Ridge, who were very receptive to the idea, and the dance was brought to life. We look forward to planning next year’s dance event and possibly work with other centers in our Active Adult community to increase engagement.”

The Sadie Hawkins Dance is one of many activities that are coordinated by the Town’s Parks and Recreation Department’s Active Adults series of events. The next planned Active Adult activity the Town has arranged is a luncheon at Encompass Health on March 13, 2019, followed by a presentation on stress management, which will be presented at MCCI on March 20, 2019.
