South Miami Women’s Health is delighted to welcome three new members to our family of caring, dedicated providers.
Dr. Melissa Acevedo was born and raised in Miami, graduated magna cum laude in biology from Florida International University, and received her medical degree and performed her residency at New York University. She was named Chief Resident at New York University. Dr. Acevedo is skilled in every area of gynecological and obstetric care, and has years of successful, rewarding practice in New York and South Miami. Dr. Acevedo insists on being personally involved in her patients’ obstetrical care, and guides them through every step of the delivery and post-delivery process. Dr. Acevedo welcomed two new additions to her own family, Logan and Lucia, who have given her a wonderful perspective on twin pregnancy and motherhood. Dr. Acevedo enjoys recreation in the Florida Keys, spending time with her friends and family and, most important, her patients, for whom she cares very much.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Karen Seetal-Kihei has health care in her genes. Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, she is the daughter of a nurse, and has wanted to be a health care provider since childhood. She attended public school in Miami and graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. At FIU, Seetal-Kihei received multiple honors before moving on to graduate school where she received her Master of Science degree in Nursing and became a nurse practitioner in adult health. Karen has years of experience, including a tenure at the South Miami Fibroid Center, which offers state-of-the-art treatment for women suffering from uterine fibroids. Karen’s knowledge and experience spans the spectrum of women’s health care.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, MaryAlice Fulmer is a Miami native who received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Barry University in 2011. Fulmer worked as a registered nurse for five years and as an advanced practice registered nurse for one year with Mount Sinai Medical Center’s Cardio Thoracic Surgery team. Fulmer also earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Barry University and became a certified family nurse practitioner in 2016. MaryAlice’s additional experience includes 1,000 hours of doctoral clinical practice and extensive research in the use of complementary and alternative medicine among cancer patients. She has perfected the Mona Lisa Touch procedure in her tenure at South Miami Women’s Health.
Our three new additions join Drs. Joyce Miller, Luis Roca and Joseph Venditto, and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Cely Loffredo, in a practice founded in 1991 by Dr. Edward Phillips, the patriarch of our family-focused practice. Dr. Phillips continues to see GYN patients as he enjoys semi-retirement with his wife, Susan.
