October 2018: Pinecrest/Palmetto Bay Edition

Though it may be known for its spookiest weekend, October is a great time to think further ahead than the 31st. It’s a time to start planning for the holidays, setting Thanksgiving plans and maybe (MAYBE) breaking out a few sweaters. The holidays mean something very different for South Floridians; we can swap avocado for acorns and are more likely to host an alfresco holiday soiree than be toasting the holidays by the fire. Our feature section this month takes a closer look at what makes the holiday party season special in our city, with recipes from some of the cities most in-demand and creative chefs and party inspo from a local expert in outdoor entertaining. We hope you get inspired to rearrange your furniture and whip up a easy treat for guests as we celebrate Miami style.

Elsewhere in the issue we meet Elyssa Linares, who rose in the ranks from a local site coordinator for Communities in Schools to the President and CEO of the Miami outpost. Her story of how one small decision can change your career — and other people’s lives– is truly inspiring. We are also always thrilled to share community news and spotlight movers and shakers around the area in our Community Call. Feel free to share any news with us at anytime by emailing [email protected] with the subject line “Community Call.”
