Pinecrest welcomes new Parks and Recreation Director

Please join us in welcoming Robert C. Mattes, Parks and Recreation Department Director. Mr. Mattes was appointed by the Village Manager to serve as the Parks and Recreation Director on November 20, 2017. Loren Matthews, the Village’s first Parks and Recreation Director retired after 19 years of service.

Mr. Mattes previously served as the Parks and Recreation Director in Union Vale, New York as well as the Recreation Director in Portland, Maine and Hopkinton, New Hampshire.

Mr. Mattes is dedicated to maintaining the high quality programs, traditions and services that Pinecrest residents have come to love – all while implementing new and innovative recreational opportunities to continue enhancing the quality of life in the Village. Mr. Mattes strongly believes that public spaces should be all-inclusive, providing places where all individuals can play, learn and enjoy nature within their community.  As an avid lover of the outdoors, Mr. Mattes hiked and backpacked 40 of the 4,000 foot mountains in New Hampshire. Now that he lives in South Florida, he plans to make good use of his proximity to the ocean by learning how to kiteboard and earning his scuba diving certification.

Mr. Mattes holds a Master’s degree in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management from North Carolina State University as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Outdoor Recreation and Psychology from Plymouth State University.  He has numerous professional certifications including Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP), Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI), and Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO).  Mr. Mattes was an active member in the New York State Recreation and Parks Society and served on the Executive Board of the Hudson Valley Leisure Serves Association for many years.
