So much to do! The cooler half of the year is here and with it the traffic is back in full force, people everywhere are hustling to their activities in this beautiful weather. The next six months will bring opportunity to enjoy the arts, the sports, the workouts and so much more. South Florida is in full gear!
Shakespeare is coming to Miami in the form of an exhibition of his first folio at FIU along with a series of events around the exhibit including educational programs for the community. The Adrienne Arsht Center will host world-class shows, including Cabaret, The Sound of Music, Motown The Musical and many more. There are some 25 museums in town and many more art galleries. Coral Gables and The Wynwood District each host “Art Walks” every month. The arts are crescendoing and for that we are grateful.
It’s easy to understand why any team that wants that discretionary dollar from the local fans has to put on a good product. Miami has the Dolphins, Your Miami Heat is on, and The Panthers open the NHL season this month. The Strikers in Ft. Lauderdale, and soon the Miami FC, will kick off at FIU Stadium in anticipation of an MLS franchise coming to town. Miami will rise to the calling of being a soccer powerhouse. NCAA Football and Soccer games are played every weekend this month in South Florida. You have High School football games on Friday nights to start the weekend off, and in friendly outdoor conditions.
Then there are the opportunities to work out. The marathons, 5K runs, fund raising walks and Golf Outings are just a few examples. Tennis anyone? Long walks to breathe deep, and take in the paradise that we live in. Let’s go fishing, catch lobster and harvest stone crabs!
Our universities are world-renowned. FIU ranked #6 in the U.S. News Education report for their International Business program. UM has its sixth president in Julio Frenk (wilkommen, bienvenue, welcome) a visionary in global citizenship, and has started construction of a 200,000-square-foot ambulatory care center on campus. Back to school anyone? Tempting, isn’t it?
Livability.com named Coral Gables the “Foodie City” of 2015. Yet another reason to go out in the dead of winter.
With so much to experience the last thing we want is to spend so much time in traffic, wouldn’t you agree? Projections include a growth in population and more density throughout South Florida. We need mass transportation now, faster than it can get here. If you accept that premise, then it’s reasonable to consider improving your real estate-related quality of life.
To me this means living nearby most of the daily activities that make up “la vie quotidien” and staying within a reasonable radius of the arts, the sports and other entertainment to enjoy. I envision a five to fifteen minute commute to work or school, a short walk to lunch, an evening with friends at a restaurant down the street. On the weekend jump on the Metro Rail to catch a show, walkabout, ride bikes, play soccer, golf and tennis. Take in this wonderful experience with my loved ones. Come to think of it Coral Gables, Downtown Miami, Dadeland, Edgewater District, Miami Beach all are prospects.
The next “cooler half of the year” will be the first of many to come. What’s on your canvas and where will you paint it?
