24-hr Mega Match-a-Thon Pet Adoption Event

It’s here again! It’s really big; it’s humongous; it’s colossal; it’s immense. And it’s every animal lover’s fantasy come true. Miami’s 24 HR Mega Match-A-Thon, presented by Subaru, will be a true Midnight Marathon. The event will start at 11:59pm on Friday, October 9th and carry on non-stop, or until all animals are adopted, till 11:59pm on Saturday, October 10th! The Humane Society of Greater Miami, Miami-Dade Animal Services and The Cat Network, together with rescue groups from all over South Florida, will host the event at Tropical Park, located at 7900 Bird Road, in Miami.

Potential adopters will have the opportunity to meet, fall in love with and adopt one or more of dozens of adorable cats, kittens, dogs and puppies at low fees and in a fun and exciting race themed atmosphere. The marathon adoption of puppies and kitties will kick-off the festivities at midnight!

If you do adopt an animal then make sure you are prepared to put in the work to look after them. Adopted animals might be more work than puppies you buy as a puppy because you don’t know its history. For example, some dogs might have come from a bad home and don’t know basic commands like sit or stay. But, the phrase “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” isn’t true so it’s never too late to teach them! You might need help from professionals like Hnh dog but adopting them will definitely be worth it.

You can bring the entire family! There will be a Kid’s Festival and fun games for children of all ages, as well as live entertainment and refreshments by a variety performers and vendors. To make sure that no one goes home hungry, there will be a great selection of food trucks offering a delicious variety of food.

As part of the ASPCA® Miami-Dade Community Partnership, Miami-Dade County Animal Services, the Humane Society of Greater Miami and The Cat Network, Inc. received a grant funding to participate in the 2015 ASPCA® Mega Match-a-thon event, presented by Subaru, as part of large-scale adoption events held simultaneously nationwide in an effort to save more lives of shelter animals.

“We are very excited to once again partake in the Mega Match-a-thon and enrich the lives of so many families by bringing these wonderful pets into their homes and their hearts,” said Laurie Hoffman, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Greater Miami. “The more we adopt, the more we can save!”

Humane Society of Greater Miami
The Humane Society of Greater Miami is a limited admit, adoption guarantee facility dedicated to placing every dog and cat in our care into a loving home, and to promoting responsible pet ownership and spay/neuter programs. Adoption guarantee simply means that every animal under our care is safe from the threat of euthanasia for as long as it takes to find them a forever family. We have been helping homeless animals in Miami-Dade County since 1936.

Miami Dade Animal Services
Unlike limited admission facilities, Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department (Animal Services) takes in all abandoned pets to its shelter providing care and refuge for approximately 500 pets weekly (over 27,000 per year). Every day, Animal Services staff and volunteers work diligently to find life-long homes for these abandoned animals by facilitating onsite adoptions, hosting off-site adoption at events and locations throughout the community, and working collaboratively with over 70 rescue organizations who share in our goal of a No Kill Miami-Dade County.

The Cat Network
The Cat Network, Inc. is a 501(c)3, Florida not-for-profit corporation dedicated to humanely reducing cat overpopulation by educating the public about the need to sterilize their pets and strays; providing access to low-cost spay/neuter services for stray, homeless and abandoned cats; helping members in their efforts to place adoptable cats in loving homes; and advocating non-lethal population control and humane public policy.

We have been helping homeless animals in Miami-Dade County since 1936. We offer programs and services to educate, inform, and inspire people to take responsible care of their pets and treat animals with the kindness they deserve. With the support of people from across the county, we are helping to create a better community for all.
