The sixth day of the 2014 FIFA World Cup kicked off with Group H opener, Belgium v Algeria. Followed by Brazil v Mexico and concluded with Russia v Korea Rupublic.
Belgium faced Algeria in the first game of Group H. Belgium was heavily considered dark horses for the tournament but a shaky start to the game led many to believe that the Belgium side was not as strong as they had thought. Algeria had the lead after a penalty at the 25th minute and held that lead until the 70th minute when Belgium tied the game. Ten minutes later Belgium would score the second goal to beat the Algerians and lead Group H with three points.
Hyped to be one the most exciting games of the World Cup, Brazil V Mexico did not let down. Easily the most exciting of all the games to date, Mexican Goalkeeper, Guillermo Ochoa put on the performance of his career. Block after incredible block, Ochoa kept the Mexican side in the game. Along with a stellar defensive display the Mexican side held up against the Brazilians to add further doubt as to whether the host country could win the cup. The exhiliarting match ended draw after 90 minutes at 0-0 giving both teams one point and keeping them tied on the leaderboard.
Russia faced Korea in the final game of the match and after 68 minutes of no goals, Korea gained the lead after Russian goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev in total opposites of Ochoa earlier in the day, let the ball bounce off his hands and into the net. However Russia were able to come back and tie at the 74th minute with a rebounded strike into the net as both the Korean defense and Russian offense scrambled around the box in confusion. Leaving the game 1-1 at the final whistle.
