Fourth day into the 2014 FIFA World Cup and still not one game has ended in a draw and up until now 36 goals have been scored. The closest to a draw was today’s game between Switzerland and Ecuador which was a tense 1-1 up until the 93 minute where Switzerland managed to take advantage of Ecuador’s momentary lapse of judgement.
Today we were also witness to probably the worst display of World Cup soccer so far. It takes much skill and determination to play good soccer at the world stage, but it takes something more to play as terribly as Honduras did today against France. They played a rough tackling game that left Paul Pogba with open wounds and saw Honduras midfielder Wilson Palacios ejected after accumulating two yellow cards while conceding a penalty. After truly disappointing play, Honduras were left scratching their heads at a 3-0 loss courtesy of France.
But on the very same day we were blessed to be able to witness Lionel Messi’s second ever World Cup goal as he ran through Bosnia and Herzegovina’s line of defense to strike a magisterial goal to put Argentina up by two in a match that ended 2-1 in favor of the Argentine national team.
Group E
Switzerland 2-1 Ecuador
France 3-0 Honduras
