Pinecrest, Fla. – Climate adaptation and resiliency is an increasingly important issue for the National League of Cities (NLC) and its members. The NLC Energy, Environment and Natural Resources (EENR) Steering Committee will be in Pinecrest, Fla. to give committee members a firsthand look at the impacts, such as sea level rise, that climate change can have on a local community and infrastructure.
On Friday morning, Mayor Cindy Lerner, Pincrest, Fla., will be joined by Mayor Matthew Applebaum, Boulder, Colo., to discuss the impacts of climate change on local communities and how issues such as adaptation planning and long-term planning for transportation and water infrastructure interrelate and might be thought about in a resiliency-building lens. The discussion will raise awareness of the issue and inspire other communities to take action.
This will be followed by a panel discussion on the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact and why and how four counties came together to develop the regional climate change compact and about the ongoing collaborative effort to foster sustainability and climate resilience at a regional scale.
