How To Teach Your Kids About Bees

Bees are an extremely common part of life. Many people fear bees, and their fear discourages them from ever looking further into the fascinating creatures. If you don’t want your children to be afraid of bees and want them to discover all the fascinating facts about them, follow the information below on how to teach your kids about bees.

Explain All the Positives

Bees have a negative connotation that follows them, especially with kids. By teaching kids about the benefits of bees and all the benefits that bees bring to us, it can help get rid of that fear. The best way to start this change is by explaining all the positives. Explain that bees bring us honey and that they pollinate our flowers.

It is also very helpful to always remind ourselves that bees only sting when they feel that they are being threatened.

Make Your Lesson Visual

In many situations, children need to be able to see what they are being taught in order to understand and teaching them about bees is no different. Being able to show them the aspects of bees that they can’t normally see will allow them to get a better understanding of bees. Normally, all kids see is bees flying around. They never get to see the other aspects, such as the hive and its components.

Not only does this allow children to get an idea of what a bee does, but it also opens the conversation for all the things that bees do for us humans. It is a great transition to go into their distribution of honey and how honey is great for us. Talking about beekeepers would also be appropriate during this time.

Bring Props

Using props and items that go directly with beekeeping might also be a fun way to get the kids interested when teaching them about bees. Bringing physical objects usually wins over the kids. There are many different props and items that you can bring to teach kids about bees, but it might even be better to have the props be used by kids. This can be done by bringing the different equipment used for beekeeping. This will allow them to get an idea of what exactly it means to be a beekeeper.

It is understandable why people don’t like to encounter bees, but we shouldn’t let our fear outweigh all the good. There are so many positives that bees bring to this world, and we should always make sure that our youth knows that information.
