Team-Building Activities to Grow Your Business Relationships

Gone are the days where a drab office space with high partitions and no conversation between employees is good enough for office workers. People don’t want to work for a company that pit workers against each other to see who can get the most work done. Nowadays, the most productive offices are the ones that invest in their employees. Instead of a boring office design, they will use architectural resin, lighting fixtures, and cubicles that promote collaboration. Teams will have meetings more often and a more positive company culture will be promoted. Team building is just another way to encourage employees to work together and improve productivity. This is especially important for small and growing businesses.

A small business presents many opportunities for growing a team. When you’re only managing a handful of employees, it makes it easier to take the time to truly get to know each and every one of them-as well as give them a chance to get to know you. The tips we’ve collected are catered toward a smaller work environment, as they allow the opportunity for coworkers to be personal with each other. Below we’ve made a list of team-building activities for small businesses.

  1. Take a Yoga Class
Many employees appreciate a work environment that takes their workers’ wellness seriously. Healthy snacks and breaks allow employees the chance to breathe, and therefore work with a clearer mind. Have a yoga instructor come to the office and teach some simple moves to increase mindfulness and productivity. Encourage your employees to take breaks throughout the day to practice these exercises.
  2. Have a Monthly Brunch
The allowance for good food and casual conversation is one of the best ways to make people feel comfortable in their environment. Have brunch delivered to the office once a month and engage in some quality fellowship while you all fuel yourselves for the day ahead.
  3. Use Your Phones
You don’t always have to go outside to indulge in some fun activities-in fact, you don’t even have to step away from your desk! Have your employees download some interactive apps and collaborate playing these fun games. You could also try practical team games that encourage logic, problem-solving, and teamwork. An example is to make your own escape room, and have your team work together to crack the code!
  4. Engage in Community Service
What better way is there to practice instilling business values than to give back to the world around you? Be an example of kindness to your employees by closing the office for half a day and volunteering for a local charity as a group.
  5. Try an Egg Drop
This is an activity that encourages both teamwork and leadership skills. The goal of this game is to break your employees into teams and have them drop an egg from a high area. The catch is that they must attempt to not break the egg by wrapping it in paper, bubble wrap, or any other materials they have around them. The team whose egg survives the drop wins the game.
