The major benefits to saltwater systems are how low maintenance they are. Where traditional pools require a mess of chemicals that must be added in, salt systems just need salt. Furthermore, it’s not some made-up compound. Each tablet is essentially just table salt, so they cost very little. What’s more, not too many things go wrong with salt systems, so it’s easy to tell when your system isn’t working.

Besides not using noxious chemicals or splashing bleach on your favorite summer clothes, salt systems have a few interesting advantages. To start with, the salt content is very low compared to literal saltwater. As a result, the salt acts as a water softener making it much gentler on your skin than the former or chlorine-treated water.

You’re way less likely to get bleached out and worn-down bathing clothes, irritated eyes, or frizzed out hair after swimming in one of these. Plus, simply not having to smell chlorine is a subtle but deeply appreciated bonus. Lastly, the benefits of installing a saltwater pool include the fact that they’re much cheaper to maintain, as salt tablets consistently cost less than chlorine in most forms.
